What is "Gross National Happiness" (GNH)
Many people may be not familiar with the term “Gross National Happiness” (GNH). As a member, I participated in the “Global Wellbeing and GNH Lab Innovating Beyond GDP” in 2013 and visited Brazil and Bhutan. It was amazing academic journey and fieldwork and gives me the chance to dive deep into the indigenous happiness in Brazil and Bhutan. The “GNH” was proposed by Bhutan. The definition is “Gross National Happiness (also known by the acronym: GNH) is a philosophy that guides the government of Bhutan. It includes an index which is used to measure the collective happiness and well-being of a population. Gross National Happiness is instituted as the goal of the government of Bhutan in the Constitution of Bhutan, enacted on 18 July 2008.(https://www.nationalcouncil.bt/assets/uploads/files/Constitution%20%20of%20Bhutan%20English.pdf)
We not only need economic development but also take the happiness, sustainability, environment and some other factors into account so that we are able to build a society in which the wellbeing is for all including human, nature, animals, etc. That is the philosophy of building the big happiness for all.
